Start helping UA&P scholars to help others

I'm Randolfh Gahon and I'm currently studying at UST. I'm a friend of one of the members of this group. I believe that by helping UA&P scholars, we are able to help other people who are in greater need. My friend told me that ISKO is an organization who tries to help other students to promote the importance of education in their lives. I personally want to help this group to achieve their objective. And I also want to encourage others to support ISKO to help others.

use the term 'help', a kind of egocentric idea enters into us. If we help someone, that means we are in a superior position. When we help, we feel that we are one step ahead or one step higher than the ones that we are helping. But if we serve someone, then we offer our capacity with humility, on the strength of our loving concern and oneness. So let us use the proper term, 'service'.

This knowledge would be of vlaue to me in my ministry. The more I knew about my fellowman, the better I could understand and help him. This was my mission in life: to help each man and woman know his real self and how to express his true potential. This journey had helped me realize how much work there was for me to do and how much I had to learn myself before I could proceed with my life work.

UA&P Project ISKO: The Objective

As we've said, we're UA&P students who desire to help the ISKO organization of UA&P in their civic projects. This is basically the objective for putting up this blog...
helping scholars help others.

We want to be an instrument to ISKO to enact their projects. They have projects in line for the next year, which they hope will be implemented. This can be done if they have the funding for the projects. Thus, you too can help them!

You can also be an instrument in helping other people.
Find out more on how to help ISKO in your next visit! :)

We are all fourth year UA&P IMC (Integrated Marketing Communications) students, who advocate ISKO, the scholars' organization of UA&P. We want to generate awareness for the projects of ISKO, as they may get support from the UA&P community, and others who are willing to support their causes.

This blog also aims to discuss different issues and topics about UA&P as a whole.

Basically, Project ISKO is all about helping scholars help others.

We hope to get your support for the achievement of our goals.

UA&P students: What do we think about scholarship program?

Here are some of our thoughts...

“Different universities and colleges should allocate more funds for their scholarship programs because that is the only way for them to help those less fortunate high school graduates. Let’s take good care of our YOUTH!”
-My Eugenio

“Today, college education is a privilege. We, who can afford to go to prestigious universities, should be thankful and we should make the most out of it. At the same time, we should also think about those who stop short at high school education only. Scholarship programs within the different universities should be well-funded and supported. Let us share our blessing to the less fortunate youth.”
–Patricia David

Make not education a commodity. Not even luxury or necessity. It’s a right… and it should remain that way… whatever it takes.
-Raiza Revilla

Education is a right Not a privilege! Advocate learning! Advocate UA&P! Woooh!
-Check Odulio

Education is our life. We should support scholars to give them life. Support UA&P scholars!
-Jundel Faraon

College in the Philippines has always been valued by families. That’s what keeps the young Filipinos yearn to graduate with a degree. Everybody should be given that opportunity.

UA&P Scholarship Program

Education in the Philippines is composed of three levels: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Levels. Education system of the Philippines is similar with the American system. The Commission for Higher Education (CHED) is responsible for formulating and implementing policies, plans and programs for the development and efficient operation of system of colleges in the Philippines. Today, there are more than 1,647 colleges and universities in the country. Moreover, foreign students pursue their college education in the Philippines including Americans, Koreans and Taiwanese. Despite the fact that foreign students continue to patronize our college education, a lot of Filipino youth cannot afford to pursue higher education.

As of 2004, there are 183,075 students enrolled in public universities and 480,963 students enrolled in private universities and colleges in the NCR region; a grand total of 664,038 both male and female college students (statistics based on CHED).

According to CHED, the top three regions with the most beneficiaries are region XII, IV and NCR. In 2002, CHED acquired 3,198 grantees for NCR. They allocated 42,612,178.00 pesos for funding the grantees .

Based on these statistics, less than 1% of the total college students in NCR are being funded by the scholarship program of CHED. Scholarship programs or financial assistance of different universities and colleges in NCR are important because it will benefit our high school graduates who cannot afford to pursue a college education.

The University of Asia and the Pacific shares the same sentiment as the students. Make education available and attainable for all. Thus, the UA&P Scholarship Program. Many are granted the right and given the opportunity to study in such a prestigious academe because of the said program.

The Fund Development Office of the university is directly responsible for gathering funds for the scholarship of its current students and prospective students. The Office was constituted on November 8, 2007, headed by Javier J. Calero, as Director and who is also the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University. Through this office, more students are able to study in UA&P, as they gain wisdom and develop their skills… to chase their dreams. And be who they can be.

Through the UA&P Scholarship Program, dreams are granted. And now you can be part of making these dreams come true. Join Project ISKO and be an instrument to other student’s dreams. Let us help them be who they can be.
