Education in the Philippines is composed of three levels: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Levels. Education system of the Philippines is similar with the American system. The Commission for Higher Education (CHED) is responsible for formulating and implementing policies, plans and programs for the development and efficient operation of system of colleges in the Philippines. Today, there are more than 1,647 colleges and universities in the country. Moreover, foreign students pursue their college education in the Philippines including Americans, Koreans and Taiwanese. Despite the fact that foreign students continue to patronize our college education, a lot of Filipino youth cannot afford to pursue higher education.
As of 2004, there are 183,075 students enrolled in public universities and 480,963 students enrolled in private universities and colleges in the NCR region; a grand total of 664,038 both male and female college students (statistics based on CHED).
According to CHED, the top three regions with the most beneficiaries are region XII, IV and NCR. In 2002, CHED acquired 3,198 grantees for NCR. They allocated 42,612,178.00 pesos for funding the grantees .
Based on these statistics, less than 1% of the total college students in NCR are being funded by the scholarship program of CHED. Scholarship programs or financial assistance of different universities and colleges in NCR are important because it will benefit our high school graduates who cannot afford to pursue a college education.
The University of Asia and the Pacific shares the same sentiment as the students. Make education available and attainable for all. Thus, the UA&P Scholarship Program. Many are granted the right and given the opportunity to study in such a prestigious academe because of the said program.
The Fund Development Office of the university is directly responsible for gathering funds for the scholarship of its current students and prospective students. The Office was constituted on November 8, 2007, headed by Javier J. Calero, as Director and who is also the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University. Through this office, more students are able to study in UA&P, as they gain wisdom and develop their skills… to chase their dreams. And be who they can be.
Through the UA&P Scholarship Program, dreams are granted. And now you can be part of making these dreams come true. Join Project ISKO and be an instrument to other student’s dreams. Let us help them be who they can be.
