Indeed, it's the UA&P SEB campaign period once again. These images of the CAS garden and the catwalk leading to the MPC, undeniably show the intense competition between the political parties in UA&P and independent candidates. The question is, is this really a genuine battle to win the leadership for the school or a mere battle of posters, banners, flyers, (even poses in banners), and what have you?
When I arrived in school last Tuesday, I was stunned with the transformation of the campus. "May fiesta?" That's what I asked myself. I haven't seen the school so dressed up for the SEB elections. The pictures here only show the CAS garden and MPC pathway. Wait 'til you see the "smerea" (smoking area near the parking lot), the cafeteria, railings of the CAS stairway, even drinking fountains! The point is this: Aren't these just too much??? Hasn't it turned the school grounds into a ruckus of clutter? Does this much promotion (advertising) express the sincerity of the candidates to serve UA&P and its student body? I even overheard a faculty member of the school expressing her irritation on all the materials and just how much of them were!
I bet all the candidates for the SEB positions are wholeheartedly willing to serve UA&P and the student body. And it can defintely be seen with the amount of effort they are putting into their campaigns. This is not a question of credibility or integrity. This serves as a call for the whole UA&P student body. Through the campaign period, students should see behind these posters/banners/flyers. They should see behind the poses and the smiles. I'm not saying that "looks can be deceiving." I'm just saying that this election should not be a popularity contest or the one with the most number of banners, wins. It's not like that. And students should see that. And I know for a fact that they will because UA&P students are intelligent. Aren't we all taught of critical thinking?
I encourage you to share your comments, views and opinions with this post and what you really think is happeing to the UA&P SEB campaign. After all, it's your school. It's our school. We should all be concerned.
