UA&P: A LOVE STORY FOR THE GEEKIES
Posted by Project ISKO. Helping scholars help others. at 10:30 AMOkay, so it’s Valentines again! I’ve been thinking of numerous topics that would tie in with our site and this season of the hearts. So I thought of writing an article about Albert Einstein and his married life or something. But then, as I did my research, it seems that Einstein had some controversial, uhm, affairs(?) with other women? I’m not sure about this though but anyway I decided to post a much fascinating story.
Have you ever watched the film A beautiful mind?
For those who have, good for you!
For those who haven’t, well I hope I’d be able to make you interested in watching it.
The film is based on a book about John Nash. His story is unlike any other love stories. Here’s the gist. John Nash is a brilliant mathematician etc. (I say etc because Nash is also an expert in other fields although he’s most famous for being a Nobel Prize winner). In a word he is just purely intelligent. Anyway, he fells in love with Alicia who later became his wife. Then, the twist in the story comes in. He was psychiatrically diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. The most wonderful loving thing in this story is this: despite his husband’s suffering from a mental illness, Alicia (in the end) still stood by him and held their marriage together, and Nash, despite his condition, still loved his wife. And this for me is what you call the geek love.
Below are some of my favorite lines in the movie.
Nash: Infinite.
Alicia: How do you know?
Nash: I know because all the data indicates it's infinite.
Alicia: But it hasn't been proven yet.
Nash: No.
Alicia: You haven't seen it.
Nash: No.
Alicia: How do you know for sure?
Nash: I don't, I just believe it.
Alicia: It's the same with love I guess.
****
Alicia: You want to know what's real? This... [putting her hand on his heart and his hand on her face]
Alicia: You want to know what's real? This... [putting her hand on his heart and his hand on her face]

"What truly is logic? Who decides reason? I have made the most important discovery of my life: It is only in the mysterious equations of love that any logic or reasons can be found. You are the reason I am. You are all my reasons."
"What truly is logic? Who decides reason? I have made the most important discovery of my life: It is only in the mysterious equations of love that any logic or reasons can be found. You are the reason I am. You are all my reasons."
** The final quote, personally, is probably the sweetest thing a geek can ever say!
Hooray for intelligent people who know how to use both their minds and hearts!
