"As a student, you should dedicate yourself to your books with an apostolic spirit, and be convinced in your heart that one hour added to another already make up — even now! — a spiritual sacrifice offered to God and profitable for all mankind, your country and your soul."
This quotation is taken from one of St. Josemaria Escriva's famous works entitled Furrow. The saint had devoted his life teaching people and students to make the best out of their work for their own sake, the society and above all for God. Upon reflecting on the quote, I remember the several teachings repeatedly instilled in our minds that studying is neither a punishment nor a load that eats up our precious time. But that it demands from us a positive respond which will in the future benefit not only ourselves but also the society. I believe that our role as students should not only stay at the level of learning, but that it must also elevate on the level of generosity and charity towards the society, to our family, fellow students and countrymen. Last Tuesday, our class in Communication Ethics discussed what social justice is and how simple students can practice it. Our teacher said that social justice is giving what we have to others who don't have. As students, since we cannot materially provide for others through our own income, our present duty to study is already an act of justice and thus must be taken seriously. Moreover, what we can do to help society is to support our fellow schoolmates who rely on our generosity to keep their dreams going forward. Project ISKO therefore seeks the continuing support of the students and the community out there to help the organization fulfill more goals than it has ever imagined.
