UNITAS UA&P!!!

WARNING: This is a pretty long post, but please read through it. It will enlighten and uplift the UA&P student in you. You would wish to hug UAPPY after!

I was rummaging through my very cluttered inbox of email messages and found a very interesting email that was sent to me more than a year ago by a classmate. I think it's going to strike you the same way it struck me.

The original email says:

A couple of days ago, I was having dinner at the Podium. As I was enjoying the thin crust pizza I could not help but overhear someone from the next table saying “CRC? Yuck!”. Quite peeved, I looked over to see a group of yuppies, all saying the same thing for a good 2 minutes “CRC? Yuck”. Blood boiling, I couldn’t help but start thinking ill of these people. Just who the heck did they think they were? Blasting my alma matter like there was no tomorrow? There was no respect afforded to our University, none whatsoever. They could not even have the courtesy to refer to us by our new name: UA&P. “CRC, Yuck!”.

Are we as despicable as everyone portrays us to be? I wanted to stand up right there and then to tell them off. But I didn’t. And then that’s when I realized why some ignorant person would say something like that. It was because we allow them to do so.... We walk around dejected about our school. Whenever others ridicule our university as a dumping ground for rich spoiled brats we quickly jump ship and say, “I’m not one of them”. I say we finally get up and say “WE ARE NOT WHO YOU PORTRAY US TO BE!”. We have an identity and we are proud of who we are as an institution.

We are proud of the fact that our institution was founded by 3 doctors from Harvard University , Cambridge Massachusetts . We are proud to be the lone university that still champions a liberal education grounded in the Humanities; the classics and the sciences. In a world where education has degenerated to the creation of money making machines, UA&P has remained steadfast in its zeal to provide individuals with an education that not only prepares you for the working world, but champions the fact that education is a way of life and not simply a means to earning money. We are proud to know that ALL students at the University are tasked with completing courses in Calculus, a subject discarded as a general subject because some believe it to be “too hard”. We are proud to say that we still, in this day and age, uphold the values of a true Christian education, ever championing the cause in a world that seems to believe that faith and morals is simply not in style.
We are proud of the fact that the University calls upon all its students to lead and be involved in extra curricular activities, due to our small population, students are tasked with being in varsity teams, a student organization and having to cope with the ever increasing standards of “retention” at the University. We are proud of the fact that our athletes are REAL students, devoid of special favors and academic incentives. We are proud of the fact that although many of our students are blessed with material wealth, we never forget the fact that to those that much is given, much is expected in return.

We do have an identity and there is much to be proud of at the University. If only we stopped looking over our shoulder to see what the other universities were doing, we’d realize that our University is truly something to be proud of. Rekindle the fire that burns within, realize the wealth of education that the University has imparted on you. We have our own identity, and it should be one that we choose to have. This begins by realizing all the great things that is the University of Asia & the Pacific. ***- Nicholas Mapa (July 30, 2007)

you can see the difference between UA&P students and others. the sad part is, UA&P students try to blend in, when they can't help but stand out. and when they are standing out, they are the last ones to realize their potentials.

UA&P students are so much more than what students from other universities think. we are smart and classy and we are hardworking too.

Hell yeah! I am proud to be a UA&P student. I can't even fathom the idea of being in any other university. There may be some of us who wish they were in some other school instead, but what they don't know is that we have so much more to offer.
UA&P is a one of a kind university, and they should be proud of it.

there is only one thing UA&P lacks - a relatively small student population. aside from that it is even far better than the seemingly "good" universities often mentioned.
